What is a
Lunch-and-Learn?
A
lunch-and-learn program is a training or presentation
session offered by an organization to employees during a
lunch hour (or any other 1 to 2 hour block of time). It
may be held in employee cafeterias, auditoriums,
conference rooms, or even an open space in a department.
It's done to inform or inspire employees, cover issues
or initiatives, fulfill requirements, or create a
workplace of learning, communication and collaboration.
A meal or snack is often provided by the
organization or department as an enticement for
employees to attend the training. Employees could also
be asked to bring their lunch in a brown bag to the
session. The learning part of the session usually takes
about 50 minutes (up to 90 minutes), including
facilitated discussion and exercises to anchor and
apply the information.
Organizations find it beneficial to
provide Lunch-and-Learn
programs for many reasons:

Lunch-and-Learn Topic #4:
Understand Your (and Your Workmates')
Operating Styles
(1 CEU)
Many
of the conflicts that arise between people in teams have to do
with differences in individual styles of reflecting,
interacting, and problem solving. Failure to recognize these
very natural differences and failure to capitalize on the
strengths these differences connote lead to missed
opportunities. It is useful to share a common language about
styles, to understand what varying profiles mean for
interactions, and to know how to work with colleagues who have
similar and different styles from their own. A difference in
style does not mean that people cannot work together; often it
is the lack of understanding about how a person with a different
style sees the world that leads to conflict.
This workshop
will help you and your work teams understanding similarities and
differences in styles, to create ways of connecting and build
bridges to understanding.
This
class is appropriate for all team
members.
